谁创造了“遥感”一词？

 

遥感通过使用航空或卫星图像来提取某个地理区域的信息，是从远处观察地理特征或现象的行为。

布朗大学教授劳伦斯·史密斯（Laurence Smith）定义了遥感技术，遥感技术有两种形式：一是被动遥感，依赖于成像物体表面自然反射或发射能量（想想在阳光下用相机拍照）。大多数遥感仪器属于此类，它们获取可见光、近红外和热红外图像。二是主动遥感，传感器提供自己的照明并测量返回的光线（例如带闪光灯的相机）。使用主动遥感的遥感技术典型代表是激光雷达。

虽然遥感的起源可以追溯到第二次世界大战对雷达，声纳和热探测技术的使用[1]，但直到1950年代后期才开始使用术语“遥感”。  美国海军研究办公室的地理学家伊夫林·普鲁伊特（Evelyn Pruitt）是第一个创造“遥感”一词的人。为了定义多光谱相机，红外胶片和非照相扫描仪的新兴成像功能，促使伊夫林·普鲁伊特（Evelyn Pruitt）为此新研究领域取一个名字。
